Asikuma School Building Fund

In 2014 the community leaders of Asikuma approached our mission center director, asking him if he would help lead the effort to bring a school to the side of the community that our mission center sits on.  The town of Asikuma is split in half by a main road, and the east side of town did not have access to education.  Access to quality education is the most highly sought after privilege in Ghana.

From here, a community led vision came together.  One of the goals of Royal Promise is to serve and empower the communities that we work in. We desire to pay attention to the locals and their needs, and support and equip them in their efforts to not only relieve poverty in their community, but to bring in growth and employment.  Helping the community to build a school has been a beautiful example of how our partnership with the local leaders is meeting this goal.

By January 2015, we had a temporary school structure set up just adjacent to our mission center, and by the end of that month, our school was operating.  Though the temporary school structure was sufficient to get us started, there were a few issues that we encountered. A big one being that we couldn’t have school when it rained because the classrooms would flood and the kids and books would get soaked.  Issues like this kept us believing that a permanent school building with enclosed walls was in our faith forecast. We had blue prints drawn up for a permanent school building, and hoped that our faith would become sight.

In 2017 we received a generous financial gift, which allowed us to begin the groundwork of building the permanent school structure. In Ghana, you can build as you have the funds. So it is common in Ghana to experience many intervals of construction starting and stopping as funds are available.

In early 2018 we found ourselves with a bunch of cinder block walls and $30,000 in the bank. We held a fundraiser that resulted in another $43,000 coming in, which allowed us to take 60% of those walls and turn them into two wings of a permanent school structure.

In November 2018 a few representatives of our organization were privileged to attend a dedication ceremony for the new building.

In January 2019 all but a few older classes moved into the new facility and had their first schooling in their wonderful new building!  We currently employ a team of 22 in-country staff members which includes our school headmaster, teachers, teacher’s aids, school cooks, school janitor, and school bus driver. We have grades from nursery level (4-year-olds) through primary school (junior high level), and we teach Christian curriculum.  The children living at our mission center attend our school, and it is also open for enrollment to the Asikuma community, as well as neighboring communities.

This summer of 202o we would like to finish this project!  This will allow ALL of our students to be in the new facility. We need $26,395 in total to make that happen.

If your preference is to contribute something significant that will produce an enduring and meaningful result for the many lives in this community that our school impacts, this might be the place you should consider directing your gift.
